If you're a fan of Pokémon GO, then it goes without saying that you're on the lookout for some legendary Pokémon as well. If you want the legendary Pokémon GO locations, then this guide is for you. We will:

  1. Find out more about legendary Pokémon
  2. Understand how to catch legendary Pokémon
  3. Look at the top 8 coordinates for legendary Pokémon

So? Let's get right to it!

What is a Legendary Pokémon?

Legendary Pokémon are extremely rare and powerful creatures in Pokémon GO. Unlike regular Pokémon, they can't be hatched from eggs and are usually not found in the wild.

The most common way to catch them is by participating in Raid Battles and then successfully capturing them in the Bonus Challenge. However, there are other methods to encounter them.

Currently, there are a total of 64 Legendary Pokémon, and 45 of them can be obtained through Raid Battles. This system adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the game, making it a special experience for Pokémon trainers.

How to Get the Legendary Pokémon

Capturing Legendary Pokémon involves various methods, adding excitement and diversity to the gameplay. Here's how to catch them:

Raid Battles

The primary approach is through Raid Battles, where players defeat the Legendary Pokémon in a battle and then attempt to catch them in the Bonus Challenge. The Pokémon available in raids change regularly, introducing new ones and bringing back previous ones for players to catch or collect candies.

Special Research Tasks

Legendary Pokémon can also be obtained as rewards in different game features. During special events or as part of Timed Research or Special Research tasks, players may receive a Legendary Pokémon as a reward. Additionally, achieving certain ranks in the GO Battle League expands the pool of possible Pokémon rewards to include specific Legendary Pokémon.

Defeating Giovanni

Defeating Giovanni, a prominent character in the game, rewards players with the opportunity to catch his Shadow Legendary Pokémon at a 100% catch rate, making it a unique and exciting encounter.

Catch It in the Wild

While it's exceptionally rare, a few Legendary Pokémon can sometimes appear in the wild, particularly during special events like the Pokémon GO Tour: Johto.

However, this method comes with higher risk, as the catch rate is similar to raids, and there's a chance the Pokémon may flee after failed capture attempts. As of now, the Lake Guardian Trio is the only group of Legendary Pokémon regularly found in the wild.

Can Legendary Pokémon Spawn in the Wild?

Yes, Legendary Pokémon can indeed appear in the wild, although it's a very rare occurrence. For instance, Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit have been known to spawn in the wild, but their appearances are extremely scarce.

It's important to note that each of them is specific to certain regions – Azelf in the Americas, Mesprit in Europe and Africa, and Uxie in Asia and Australia.

Additionally, there are instances where Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres may appear when using the Daily Adventure Incense, although they are both rare spawns and quite challenging to catch.

Special events also bring about opportunities to encounter Legendary Pokémon in the wild. For example, during the Hoenn Tour this year, either Latios or Latias could be found in the wild based on whether you chose the Ruby or Sapphire version of the event.

Similarly, in last year's Johto Tour, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune made appearances in the wild as part of the event.
